Abortion: Making Informed Decisions
What Are My Options When It Comes To Abortions?
Roe v Wade was overturned on June 24, 2022 by the Supreme Court of the United States’ decision giving the authority to the individual states to determine how to address abortion rights. This enacted the Missouri state trigger law, 188.017. Right to Life of the Unborn Child Act — limitation on abortions.
In general, Abortions in Missouri are currently no longer accessible except in those cases of physical, medical emergencies, which would be to save the life of the pregnant woman.

First Trimester: Aspiration Abortion (4-16 weeks after last menstrual period) Aspiration abortion, also called vacuum aspiration, is performed throughout the first trimester. (13-24 weeks after last missed period) Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) During the second trimester a dilation and evacuation abortion is performed. Anesthesia (local or general) will be given the day of the procedure before the cervix is mechanically stretched. MEDICAL ABORTION Plan B One-Step (up to 72 hours) Plan B One-Step is also called the morning after pill. The pill contains 1.5 milligrams of levonorgestrel. Depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle, the pill may prevent ovulation, interfere with fertilization, or prevent implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus. Plan B One-step is not effective if implantation has already occurred. Mifeprex (mifepristone) (up to 49 days after 1st day of last menstrual cycle) Formerly known as RU-486, Mifeprex is used with misoprostol to end a pregnancy. It does so by blocking the action of the hormone progesterone. Progesterone is needed to sustain a pregnancy. As we discussed above you do have a choice. You can choose to mourn a life, share a life, or raise a life. It may seem like an abortion will wipe away this situation and you can go on with your life. It’s not that simple.
