Everything You Need to Know About Your Upcoming Pregnancy Test

Think you might be pregnant? Take a deep breath. Free pregnancy testing is available in a confidential and judgement free environment. If you’re nervous about what to expect, don’t be. Here’s a walkthrough of what you can expect before, during and after your free pregnancy test.

You Don’t Have to Do Anything Special to Prepare

Most women think that when they come in to take their free pregnancy test that they need to prepare for it like they would when going to the doctor. But the truth is you don’t have to do anything beyond make an appointment. No IDs or insurance cards are required. Just remember that while it’s recommended you make an appointment so you don’t have to wait as long, walk ins are more than welcome.

You will be Taking a Medical Urine Pregnancy Test

There are two types of pregnancy tests: blood and urine. You will recognize the urine test as what you do when you take a store bought test, but it can also be used medically. The difference between a medical urine pregnancy test and one you buy at the store is that medical pregnancy tests are more accurate. If home pregnancy tests are not done correctly or taken too early, it can give false results.

At Birthright, you will be taking a medical urine-based test, as results are quicker than a blood test and just as reliable—a few minutes rather than a few hours or days. No blood to be drawn and no waiting for lab results.

You Can Meet with a Licensed Counselor

Whether your test was positive or not, you’ll be able to meet with a professional, licensed counselor who will provide you with information on multiple resources depending on your needs. Please take note that we don’t have specific recommendations—everything is dependent on you. Our counselors are here for support and guidance and are always available via text or phone if you need them.
